Hg2 : The Hedonist

Café La Fusée

Simple, friendly and immensely likable, Café la Fusée is a true haven among the hit-and-miss bars of the touristy Beaubourg area, and a good resort near the Pompidou Centre. In fine weather, the whole place is open onto the street, with plenty of pavement tables and mismatched chairs beneath a cheerful red and white striped awning. Inside, embellishments are restricted to shelves of knackered books, posters of past exhibitions at the Pompidou Centre, and a promising-looking cabinet of wine.

Soups, salads and croque monsieurs are served till 4pm, with cheese and ham platters available later on. There’s live music on Sundays (jazz, gypsy, Brazilian), which draws a big, sociable crowd.
