This inspired pizza joint’s hands-on owners are full of brilliant ideas. First, the pizza’s thin bases are made with organic flour and virgin olive oil; and the imaginative toppings range from eight cheeses (the Cantona) to chicken, prawns and saffron (the Almodóvar). Second, you can order your pizza, then go and sit by the canal (Pink Flamingo is just round the corner from Quai Valmy) and await for your bicycle delivery, holding the helium balloon they give you so they can spot you. If your ‘pink-nik’ is kyboshed by by the weather, there’s a dinky dining room next door to the takeaway counter and kitchen. The look is fluoro rock ‘n’ roll: you can’t miss the black and pink exterior with its pink-flamingo sign. There’s a second outlet in the Marais, at 105 rue Vieille du Temple, and they opened in Berlin in 2009. Also new in 2009 was the Obama pizza, with grilled bacon and pineapple chutney.
