Le Duplex is a civilised slice of gay Paris, more of a bar than a club, but very much a party place at weekends. An arty crowd of regulars come here to chat and hang out to the sounds of jazz and world music; it’s a forum for discussion and for contemporary art, with changing monthly exhibitions of mainly gay, male artists. There’s room to perch at high stools and tables near the bar, with the rest of the floor kept empty to accommodate the eventual crowds. The upstairs room is comfortable and even homely, with brick walls and leather club chairs, and a handy view of the weekend dancers below. Girls are welcome, but it’s all about boys here, really.
