Hg2 : The Hedonist

Hôtel Daniel

Civilised, cultivated and orientally inclined, this four-year-old newcomer to the chichi Champs Elysées is an anthology of orchids, damask, exquisite toiles de Jouy, Kazakh carpets and de Gournay wallpaper in the hotel’s signature sea-green. Owing to the exotic antiques and intimate scale, guests feel like VIPs invited to a private home; the lounge and bar are secret, not sceney, and aglow with gilded craftsmanship and coloured glass. In the 26 bedrooms, their walls covered with various toiles de Jouy by designers such as Brunschwig & Fils and Zoffany, bespoke marquetry furniture and Moroccan bathroom tiles continue the well-travelled theme. Slightly unexpectedly, there’s a gastronomic restaurant, with the chef weaving some appropriately exotic threads through the mainly Mediterrean cuisine. You can also order a steak tartare or omelette in the bar; teatime is a Ladurée/Mariage Frères affair.
