Agapé Substance is a destination for diners seeking cutting-edge gastronomy. Young chef Gaëtan Gentil, who’s headed up the kitchen since December 2012, selects seasonal ingredients on a daily basis, and proceeds to rustle up unusual and innovative combinations. Guests can watch the magic unfold from the vantage point of the bar at the open kitchen, a perfect environment for engaging with the chef and other customers. Each plate is petite yet full of striking flavours, and the presentation is carried out with pure finesse. With only 18 (fairly uncomfortable) stool seats, Agapé is rather intimate and can get noisy, but if you’re prepared to embrace the heat and smells of the kitchen and the friendly nature of the surroundings, the restaurant is a roller coaster through some serious haute cuisine.
