Hg2 : The Hedonist

Le Taxi Jaune

In the middle of the dusty, narrow Rue Chapon, famed as the district of wholesale handbag sellers, sits the Taxi Jaune bar and restaurant. The interior has largely been left untouched since it opened in 1934: mustard walls, temporary art shows, red table-tops, mosaic floor, large front windows and a counter with a neon halo. Its worn-out look imbues it with bags of character. It’s now run by dynamic young chef Otis Lebert, who has worked alongside Michelin-starred chefs in the UK, Belgium, and Italy, and the traditional French cuisine, with its international twist, is faultless. Loved by the trendy locals of the old Marais quarter, as well as the elderly regulars who look like they’ve been coming since 1934, it’s also the unlikely favoured haunt of fashionistas during Paris Fashion Week. In between busy meal times, it’s a peaceful place to enjoy an afternoon beer while soaking up the unique atmosphere.
