Hg2 : The Hedonist

Restaurants in Paris don’t get quite so dramatic as the latest reincarnation of the L’Opera, housed inside the Palais Garnier that has been transformed into a design and architectural masterpiece. The original building, built in 1875, has been totally renovated by architect Odile Decq on behalf of the restaurateur Pierre Francois Blanc. The wonderful, cavernous spaces of the ground floor have been retained in all their Belle Epoque splendour, but Decq has added a free-flowing mezzanine dining level that adds a stark, but beautiful, juxtaposition of modernity and history. The three internal spaces of the L’Opera are spread over 788m2 and includes a large terrace of more than 500m2. The kitchen is presided over by Christophe Aribert, a two-michelin-star chef who is working alongside Executive chef Yann Tanneau (ex of Mama Shelter) and patisserie chef Hervé Moreau (ex of Pierre Gagnaire) who are combining to bring a menu that spins between the classic and contemporary French cooking, only fitting given the space within which it is being served.
