Kitted out by celebrity designer Philippe Starck, Ma Cocotte, a homely ode to refined French comfort food, boasts a predictably lovely ambiance. Unfortunately, it also boasts a discreet address: the hyped restaurant, located beyond the Périphérique in the suburb of Saint-Ouen, can certainly be hard to get to. That being said, Ma Cocotte’s sheer style (the restaurant is outfitted in a warm, living room-style décor with locally sourced furnishings), makes it hard to stay away for too long. All sorts of French comforts are on offer here, from ratatouille served with a semi-soft egg to beef tartare and foie gras sharing plates. We like it best on chilly autumn days. Located near the famed Saint-Ouen flea market, it’s the best place in the vicinity to cuddle up with a bowl of hot chocolate and a plate of tarte tatin.
