Tokyo Eat
Tokyo Eat is the restaurant situated inside the contemporary art gallery Palais de Tokyo, offering contemporary dining to match its ultra-designer interior. The menu is ‘global’, however – chicken combined with basmati, plantain or satay sauce, simply grilled or as a curry – although more conservative antipasti and a few sympathetic veggie options do feature. Lamps, reminiscent of giant Smarties, looming down like spaceships from the amazingly high ceilings, have been designed by contemporary artists, along with the tables, chairs and surrounding artworks. The long rows of round tables, constantly filled by a crowd of aesthetes, run alongside the animated, stainless-steel open kitchen. Eat here and you get reduced entry to the Palais de Tokyo art gallery, or alternatively opt for the ‘lunch menu’, which includes free entry, the dish of the day and a coffee, all for a meagre 15 Euro. During the summer months Tokyo Eat opens a wonderful terrace overlooking the Seine, where you can enjoy snack food from the gallery’s canteen throughout the day.
