Hg2 : The Hedonist

La Comedie Francaise

Founded in 1680 and associated with the works of Moliere, Racine and Corneille, the venerable Comedie Francaise has three sites: the velvety Salle Richelieu on the Place Colette in the 1er; the Theatre du Vieux-Colombier in the 6eme; and the Studio-Theatre beneath IM Pei’s glittering pyramid in the Louvre. Uniquely, this is a state theatre with its own troupe of actors and a repertoire of some 3,000 plays, from Plato’s Symposium, via an overwhelming majority of classical dramas, to Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi. Excellent new productions are mounted regularly, such as the 2009/2010 season’s La Grande Magie by Eduardo di Filippo, directed by Brit Dan Jemmett.
