Gleaming white tiles behind the bar, hexagonal wooden tiles in front, and all manner of coffee-making paraphernalia in between – welcome to Original Coffee. Found in Prague’s Staré Město, this cafe makes coffee the main event. You can buy bags of properly-roasted beans to take home or settle in to enjoy an expertly prepared cup, with a little bite of something sweet on the side. The baristas really know their stuff and are sure to guide you towards some pretty damn fine coffee either way.

If you choose to stay, you can pull up a chair at one of the communal wooden tables. Cast a glimpse around at the painted coffee-sipping foxes on the wall, the small vases of flowers that bring pops of colour to the largely-white space. You’ll notice plenty of little cherry red accents found throughout though, from the coffee cups and saucers to the bean grinder. It’s cheerful and more than a little compelling as a place to while away a few hours.

And the coffee is delicious. Sourced from farmers around the world, a trip here is a bean-hopping journey from Asia to South and Central America and back. But if you’re not lucky enough to call Original Coffee your local, you can buy a bag of beans and replicate the experience at home. They’ve even got an e-shop where you can source a little more of the Original Coffee vibe, with everything from coffee pots and beans to coffee-themed temporary tattoos on offer.
