Hotel U Zlaté Studne

Hotel U Zlaté Studne (‘The Golden Well’) is one of the few hotels in Prague which offers an oasis of calm and a great location, situated a stone’s throw from Charles Bridge and the British Embassy, this 16th-century Renaissance building (once home to the famous metal-nosed astronomer Tycho Brahe) was renovated a short time ago to create 17 attractive rooms and three luxurious suites.

Everything has been refurbished to a high standard, with a plethora of reproduction furniture spread throughout. Each room contains a whirlpool bath and heated bathroom floors, but it’s the spectacular views over most of the Old Town and stretching away up to Zizkov that steal the show. Hotel U Zlaté Studne (‘The Golden Well’) also has an eponymous restaurant on the top floor – open to the public – with an outside terrace that also enjoys the panorama, as well as serving up top-class food (see Eat).

The hotel is central but still, nestled in quiet surroundings, set at the end of a small alley beyond the traffic routes; your only distraction comes from the gentle pitter-patter of the fountains situated in the hotel’s gardens below.
