Hg2 : The Hedonist

U Patrona

U Patrona, a small Prague restaurant set in a townhouse just to the north of Charles Bridge, features a light, spacious and elegantly furnished dining room downstairs, and a smaller, more sophisticated upstairs space (even with an intimate balcony for two).

One of the added pleasures of eating up here is the windowed view into the kitchen, where you can watch the chefs busying themselves with your meal. The French menu highlights the easy fusion between traditional Gallic cooking and the Czech Republic’s natural larder, with the inevitable emphasis on meat and indigenous game.

The decidedly lovely, old-fashioned atmosphere can occasionally be marred by the ubiquitous tourist groups keen to take advantage of U Patrona’s good location and nostalgic style. If it’s intimacy you seek, make sure there are no group bookings when you make a reservation.
