SAID dal 1923
Housed in a 1920s chocolate factory, this is not what immediately springs to mind when you tell someone about the best places to drink in Rome but S.A.I.D is charming. This beautiful tea room, shop, bar and restaurant offers an interesting – if somewhat still in a trial stage – selection of drinks and food with a chocolate twist, such as a perplexing ‘cauliflower pudding with chocolate.’ The cakes and the popular mugs of thick hot chocolate are to die for and S.A.I.D. also has a good wine list, parsimoniously poured. Old milk barrels, tiles on the walls and fascinating copper machinery from the factory decorate the large rooms of this spacious bar, which includes a sweets shop selling gems such as Japanese pink-tea pralines, sugared almonds or spicy chocolate bars.
