Barnum Café is the Parione district’s very own café superhero: by day, it’s a playful, cosy coffee shop offering great food, free WiFi, and excellent teas and coffee; by night, it’s a bar that serves some of the best craft cocktails in the city. You see, Barnum Café kind of has it all.
The white-washed brick walls here showcase artwork from some of the local area’s artists and, if you look up, you’ll catch a glimpse of the cardboard acrobats dangling from the ceiling – a nod to the café’s circus-inspired name. Aside from the white of the walls, the rest of the interiors are awash with colour, warmly lit by drop lights and featuring mismatched, much-loved furniture and blackboards detailing the goodies to choose from.
During the day, creative types armed with laptops, groups of friends, and families get comfy on the well-worn sofas, enjoying the amiable bustle and the usual lunchtime rush; after all, the menu here, which features all manner of delectable light dishes like torta rustica and rich, fudgy brownies, is yet another draw. But in the evening as the generous aperitivo spread is spirited out from the kitchen and the bartenders come out to play, the Barnum Café transforms into a trendy cocktail spot, which is something the district was sorely lacking before Barnum burst onto the scene. And did we mention it serves dinner, too? This is the kind of comfortable, sceney place where you could happily while away the hours from early morning until, well, the early morning.
