Hg2 : The Hedonist

Hosteria del Pesce

Come face to face with your crustacean friends at the entrance of Hosteria del Pesce and then proceed inside to the snug eatery with low lighting, wooden tables and a menu that is strictly surf rather than turf – in short, one of the most glamorous restaurants in Rome. Everyone in here thinks that they’re a star, but the almost surgical inspection lights hang over the tables shining on the real star of the show, which is the simple, well-executed seafood, fresh daily from nearby Terracina. The seating is intimate, verging on cramped (and the clientele rather snooty), but at least you know that you’re in the hottest restaurant in Rome. One glimpse at the champagne list and you get an idea of what to expect. Thank goodness those 800-Euro bottles of Krug are on-hand for special occasions when prosecco simply won’t do. With prices this steep, take your time and linger till late – staff are friendly and enthusiastic with digestivi, so get stuck into a grappa or two and tell everyone that you’re on TV back home.
