Presided over by Bartolo Cuomo, the Neapolitan grand-daddy of Roman nightlife, Santa Lucia is the one of the restaurants in Rome which defines contemporary Roman glamour, with a dark wood interior and a fine collection of paintings and drawings by contemporary artists. The food is a feast of modern Mediterranean classics with a leaning towards flavours from the Amalfi Coast, and has lined the stomachs of everyone from Bill Clinton to Sophia Loren. Despite the accolade of these lofty diners the atmosphere is very down-to-earth, and prices are far from extortionate. Cosy up in the sexy interior, or sit under the trees in the courtyard festooned with fairy-lights. Really, really cool.
