Hg2 : The Hedonist

Vizi Capitali

Vizi Capitali translates as the ‘seven deadly sins’ and reflects owner Marco Scandola’s self-confessed fascination both for human nature and for cooking – this is not one of your average places to eat in Rome. Characters from Dante’s Inferno inspire the dishes on the menu and two tasting menus are offered – for the ‘proud’ or for the ‘gluttonous’. An interesting mix of clean flavours and scents suits the wooden furnished interior, but the décor is a little confused. White minimalist walls and chic wooden tables are accompanied by gold garlands and knick-knack pound-shop gold cherubs in a slightly jarring mix. But all can be forgiven for the culinary attention to detail, the well-executed and presented food and the gracious standard of service that overrides the prices. Regional wines from Lazio also make a convincing appearance on the 70-strong list. The atmosphere lacks stuffiness but still retains an elegance that makes it as suitable for an intimate, romantic meal as it does for an informal, pre-clubbing supper. Very popular.
