If all San Francisco nightclubs had such a schizophrenic identity as Temple, the scene would quite literally cross the border into insanity. This place is called Prana Restaurant at dinner and Temple Nightclub after dark – a 22,000 square-foot club that is the newest to jump on SF’s dinner-then-dirty-dancing bandwagon, and it’s designed to the hilt. A ridiculously powerful sound system thumps with electronic beats, and the party continues downstairs in a basement with many moods. Start in an all-leather space pod of sorts before moving on to the “catacombs” with a giant Buddha á la the Temple of Doom. The VIP room, otherwise known as the Zen Compound, doubles as a holistic healing centre for meditation and massage. Alrighty then. With a $20 cover, pricey drinks, and sometimes blasé service, Temple does feel a little holier than thou and is best suited for diehard house music fanatics with a love for over-the-top design and a possible penchant for hallucinogenic drugs. I’m sorry, what? I can’t hear you … it’s so LOUD in here! Let’s talk on the parking lot smoking patio.
