Taj Campton Place
Personal service, tranquility, and luxury prevail at Campton Place near Union Square, one of San Francisco’s boutique hotels, with just 117 rooms, including two decadent executive suites and one ultraposh über-sweet suite. Guest rooms feature fine furniture, pearwood accents and elegantly appointed limestone bathrooms, all in shades of sand, sage, and cinnamon. The two buildings that house the hotel date from the early 1900’s and show their historical beauty to advantage. Most downtown points of interest are within walking distance of the Taj Campton, and while there is no spa or pool, the partly outdoor fitness centre on the roof maximises the view. As for who stays here, they’re the seasoned travellers, high-end executives, and other sophisticates who appreciate impeccable service bordering on pampering, deep soaking tubs, double-pane windows, and martinis served by waiters in suits. Business king rooms don’t have tubs, just showers, so be sure to upgrade to the California king if you plan to soak. Though views are not the forte of the Campton, the corner Superior king room offers a charming look at Union Square.
