Dosa on Valencia
Mission has several Mexican taquerias, but when bored of burritos, locals in the know go to Dosa, the best of all the South Indian restaurants in San Francisco. Different from the cuisine of other regions in the country, South Indian fare centers on the dosa, a flat savoury crepe stuffed with veggies or meat. The restaurant has 11 dosas to choose from, plus open-faced options, called uttapam. Unlike other Indian joints in town, Dosa has something else cool going for it: ambiance. Designed by owner Emily Mitra, the pumpkin-hued eatery, with contemporary art and lounge beats, is actually a date-worthy venue for dinner or brunch.
