Hg2 : The Hedonist

Spruce

In an affluent residential neighborhood sprinkled with upscale boutiques, Spruce is for those who want to enjoy some fine dining out in San Francisco and is a home base for social-page regulars and fashion-forward Pac Heights locals. A soaring limestone archway and French doors make for an imposing entrance, while, inside, cathedral ceilings provide high drama for the see-and-be-seen crowd. Reservations are a must but don’t preclude a wait. Make the most of it at the bar-a gorgeous slab of white Carrara marble lined with faux ostrich chairs-and order the Bee’s Knees. House-made charcuterie and a bottle of German Riesling is a winning start. But save your appetite for Spruce’s hearty fare-think caramelized asparagus with sweetbreads and mousseline sauce and bavette steak with duck fat potatoes. Rich cuisine, a well-appointed staff, and a grandiose dining room redefine the neighbourhood restaurant. An energetic bar scene holds strong throughout the work week. Break out the Bentley, Daddy Warbucks. Spruce is a playground for SF’s rich and famous and those who envy them. Expect large parties of affluent social scenesters dining alongside estate matriarchs and their debutante daughters. At the bar, Pac Heights locals convene for happy hour and burgers-among the best in town. Spruce boasts 100 German Rieslings that pair perfectly with house-made charcuterie and melt-in-your-mouth boudin blanc.
