Perched at the western end of the Hayes Valley strip, Suppenküche is a lively German spot for dining out in San Francisco staffed by Bavarian hotties of both sexes who will make you scrub your brain for a good come-on line. The seating-mostly benches-and the décor-simple blond woods and whites with the occasional lederhosen display-evoke an Alpine wirtshaus. Suppenküche is nearly always crowded for dinner, with the young and stylish crammed shoulder to shoulder around the central bar. The food is what you might expect: sausages, lentil soup, potato pancakes, wiener schnitzel, and pork chops, all skillfully prepared. The bar can be a great place to meet new people, some of whom you might end up sharing a bench with for dinner.
