The ride across the bay on a Blue and Gold Ferry from Fisherman’s Wharf to Angel Island would be a worthy outing in itself, alone one of the best sights in San Francisco. Once you’re on the island, miles of paths lead to picnic spots and spectacular views at every turn. Services have been kept to a minimum in order to preserve the natural beauty of the island, though there is a cafe, bike rental, and tram tour April through September. You can even reserve a day of sea kayaking. Ferries leave from Tiburon to Angel Island as well. Drive across the Golden Gate and have lunch at Sam’s Anchor Café before going for a hike on the island for an exhilarating day.
Access to the Island is by private boat or public ferry. Blue & Gold Ferry Service www.blueandgoldfleet.com
