Palace of the Legion of Honor
The Legion of Honor Museum is one of four major museums in San Francisco. The setting alone is worth the journey. Perched atop a bluff in Lincoln Park, it is nestled among towering pines and eucalyptus with a direct view of the Golden Gate and a peekaboo look at the Presidio Golf Course and the Pacific. The permanent collection covers 4,000 years of ancient and European art, beautifully displayed in the vast Beaux Arts structure, the archway approach to which makes a perfect setting for one of Rodin’s Thinker” statues. Travelling exhibitions at the Legion of Honor Museum have included everything from ancient Mayan art to a retrospective of Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings.”
