Yerba Buena Arts Museum
Across the street from SFMoMA, an equally great example of things to do in San Francisco, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is a contemporary arts centre that has carved out an artistic niche separate from its more conventional neighbour. Billed as a venue for adventurous art, it lives up to the description. The center features leading-edge presentations of visual arts, performing arts, film, and video. The visual exhibitions focus on contemporary art and popular culture with an emphasis on local artists. The annual Bay Area Now exhibition is one of the most popular draws. Performing arts programs include theatre, dance, and music presented in a state-of-the-art hall. The film and video schedule includes everything from obscure cult revivals to boundary-pushing new works by emerging filmmakers. On the first Tuesday of every month, entry (from noon-8pm) is free for all.
