As one of Östermalm’s most popular sushi joints during the day, East attracts a crowd that is typical of this area. However, the dynamic of East is turned upside-down in the evening, thanks to a much more diverse mix of people. The reasons for such a significant change are found in the pounding rhythms, toxic cocktails and funky décor, all of which bring in hip-hop lovers from all corners of the city.
From 6pm, the long bar is packed out to suffocation point, with hidden booths illuminated dimly by under-lit photographs of beautiful people in exotic locations. This place is more about ‘cool’ than beauty, however, and the bouncers outside are more than aware of this. To glide in effortlessly, dress up in your funkiest threads and be there by 10.30pm.
Open until 3am every single day of the week, in terms of atmosphere and location it’s ideal for late drinks, a brief boogie, or just as a starting point for a long night ahead. East’s success lies in its location on the corner of Stureplan, the biggest meeting-point in central Stockholm and at weekends the place from which the hordes disperse to one of the many clubs in the vicinity.
