Och Himlen Därtill
The name roughly translates as ‘And Heaven Above’ and refers to the fact that this is Stockholm’s highest bar, located on the 26th floor of a skyscraper on Södermalm. The drinks are expensive (85kr for a glass of white wine; 138kr for a cocktail), the décor is unremarkable, the bar staff wear silly red braces, it’s often too crowded. and yet none of that matters one jot as you stare out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. You can see the entire city in all directions and because the bar is dimly lit, with soft pink lighting that presumably reduces reflections on the glass, you feels as if there’s nothing between you and world outside.
It is, in short, a staggering experience that should be avoided by anyone with a fear of heights but experienced by everybody else. Rather than battling the crowd at the bar, you can reserve a table for a drink. Alternatively, dine in the restaurant which is one floor beneath the bar.
