Hg2 : The Hedonist

Fyra Knop

This is probably the most downtrodden restaurant included here, but it just had to get a mention. Restaurants in Stockholm, even on the corners of Södermalm, do not usually succeed in combining scruff with great food. More usually you get what you see, which is why most places are either trendy in the extreme or just very grand.

This is neither, with peeling wallpaper, plastic orange menus only in Swedish and a generally crusty feel all round. The décor fits well with the slapdash although delicious crêpes and galettes that Fyra Knop exclusively serves. Food comes quickly and the galettes are filled with both simple and extraordinary fillings, so you’d better ask yourself how daring you’re feeling.

The crêpes are reserved for pudding and hold everything from chocolate sauce to lashings of intoxicating liqueurs. A bohemian and alternative interior is fitting for the unorthodox crowd that frequents this spot.

This crêperie is full of scrappy charm and although you need to look to find it, it is in fact easily accessible. Try to sit in the room furthest from the entrance if you eat here and you’ll feel that everyone inside is just an extension of the furniture.
