Stockholm’s Grand Escalier has the soul of a Parisian brasserie, and the menu of one, too; albeit one with an appreciation of far-ranging flavours and influences. But it’s not just the menu that has scope, there are several areas of Grand Escalier to explore and enjoy over the course of many flavourful visits.
You can perch on one of the velvet-upholstered stools in the bar, tucking into steak tartare and fries, while nursing a glass of red wine. Indulge in a romantic meal in the sleek dining area (all gleaming metal accents and moody lighting), enjoying a herb-fried, garlic and herb butter-spiked Swedish pork chop on the bone. Or gather in the light, bright courtyard area with friends, sampling your way through dishes like feta-stuffed lamb steak with couscous salad and tzatziki, garlic-baked snails with crispy toasted bread, and rooster liver and foie gras parfait, pumpkin, lentils, ginger and bacon.
The soft leather booths and comfy velvet sofas and chairs, meanwhile, are the perfect place to unwind in the evening. Especially with one of Grand Escalier’s potent cocktails in hand. The Espresso Martini in particular is a potent apres-work pick-me-up.
But whether you’re inside or out, enjoying charcuterie or creme brulee, one thing’s for certain, time spent at the Grand Escalier is something you’re likely to repeat before long.
