Beach Haus
Tucked around a corner off the main drag at Kings Cross, Beach Haus is not actually being one of the bars in Sydney near the beach, there’s a definitive beach theme going on – the barstaff is kitted out in Le Coq Sportif sailor outfits, and the Hamptons-inspired décor features blond wood walls with a colossal mural of bikini-clad models cavorting on a beach. Don’t wander in expecting a lot of room to swing – it’s a teensy space with a teensy-weensy balcony – though there’s a DJ toward the back of the room and people do start shimmying as the night develops. As far as drinks go, the emphasis is on cocktails and feeling special. You can order a shared cocktail served in vessels shaped like seashells, and take turns to sip it à la Lady and the Tramp through hand-crafted, platinum straws. If you’ve more cash to play with, phone ahead and reserve the butler chest – a Waterford chest-slash-bar that will be set up privately for you and your entourage with a selection of tipples, mixers, ice and even a personal butler to boss around for the evening.
