Edition Coffee Roasters
When in need of a caffeine fix in Darlinghurst, go to Edition Coffee Roasters. That might sound a little dictatorial, but it’s solid advice. It’s a neighbourhood favourite (and a multi-award-winner) for a reason. In fact, people come from further afield to sit in its serene space and sip silky smooth espresso.
All-white with light blonde wooden accents and charcoal grey hints in the soft furnishings, there’s more than a little Nordic influence at work at Edition Coffee Roasters. Add to that the warm, slightly brassy glow from the drop lights and the minimalism and it’s clear to see why people are happy to while away the hours here. And that’s even before you’ve taken a look at the menu.
It’s safe to say that the food at Edition isn’t your typical cafe fare. Fusing together influences from Scandinavian and Japanese cooking, the dishes here are as stylish as they are sumptuous. There are plates like Black Angus steak with charred zucchini salsa and hen’s yolk. Sakasama Yakuza-poached pineapple hotcakes with Edition espresso mousse and blackberry powder. And black sesame and coconut foam with yuzu pearls, watermelon, and passionfruit gel. It’s hard not to order it all.
But that’s what repeat visits are for, after all. And that way you get to enjoy more of the coffee, which is good. Well-sourced and expertly brewed, whether you’re after cold brew, flat whites, or simple espresso, you’ll be well-served here. And there’s even a selection of artisanal teas, should your caffeine proclivities lean towards the leaf than the bean.
