Candy’s Apartment is one of the clubs in Sydney that just opens on the weekend, with clubbers spilling outside onto Bayswater Road amid the less salubrious Kings Cross flotsam and jetsam. The interiors are moody and low ceilings give the place a subterranean feel, with exposed brick archways and banquettes if you want to sit and have a shouting tête-à-tête with other clubbers. It’s a bit of a mish-mash when it comes to DJs – everything from house to disco, bands and international DJs and groups like the Presets, Wolfmother and Valentinos play here, either in the front room or the smaller back room. Bear in mind it’s the Cross, so slap on an angelic face and be on your best behaviour when you walk up to the door. The stony-faced doormen put up with a lot of shtick, and there’s no telling whether they will like the look of you.
