Hg2 : The Hedonist

Blue

Much of the building’s original features have been preserved, like sweeping high ceilings, exposed timber and iron beams and rusty mechanical ramps, and the space has been subdivided between the hippest design hotel in Sydney, as well as luxurious apartments – many of which are owned by the city’s glitterati, namely Russell Crowe. The rooms run along each side of the hotel, while the super-sized central warehouse space in the centre houses Water Bar, a sexy cocktail bar with Swarovski crystal curtains. The best rooms face west, overlooking the wharf and Sydney city skyline. All are beautifully-appointed, with 250 thread-count cotton sheets, roomy bathrooms with Serendipity products, and chocolate-coloured hardwood furniture offset by blue tones and black-and-white photography. W Hotel regulars will notice some of the chain’s elements remain; the gym is called Sweat, and among the M&Ms and Voss water, the in-room Munchie Boxes contain miniature bottles of flavoured Absolut vodka, Panadol and condoms. Blue’s only downfall is the lack of discreet passage to the tiny indoor pool and gym. If you want to have a dip on a Saturday night, you’ll have to stride past Water bar patrons in your swim gear.
