Gazebo Wine Bar
Enjoying a glass of wine en plein air is one of life’s simple, but unbeatable pleasures. Of course, if you add a slice or two of crispy, chewy sourdough with great salted butter, and maybe a few freshly-shucked Sydney Rock oysters, then it could definitely be improved upon. The wine garden at Gazebo Wine Bar in Elizabeth Bay is just the place to indulge. Although the light and airy interiors would do the job nicely as well.
The wine list at Gazebo Wine Bar includes some great finds from Australian vineyards, and others further afield. There are even some “alternative” varieties, should you want to try something new. But for those who don’t have a taste, or a craving for wine, there’s a decent selection of beer – both on tap, and bottled – to choose from instead.
The food menu, meanwhile, showcases Australian ingredients with aplomb, using them lightly but creatively in dishes like pecan-crumbed Barramundi, with pea puree, snow pea tendrils and tapenade. There are also hearty meat (the rib eye with polenta chips and truffle butter is a winner) and moreish pasta dishes (we’re looking at you, crab spaghetti) to tuck into as well. To round off the meal in style, there’s a tempting selection of sweet dishes, but the dessert board is the way to go. With raspberry macaroons, mini cupcake creams, a caramel dessert pop, chocolate walnut brownie, pistachio soil, chocolate sauce and strawberries, it’s nothing short of sugary excellence.
