Hugos Bar Pizza
Perched unassumingly in the eye of the Kings Cross red-light and nightclub storm, if you’re chomping into your mozzarella-laden Neapolitan-style pizza on a weekend, eating in Sydney becomes a people-watching treat. Call ahead to snag yourself space on the outdoor leather banquette, though the interior is just as slick. With a backlit marble bar and sunken loungey area, the concertina-style windows facing the street are thrown open on balmy nights. As for the food, Hugos is owned by celebrity chef Pete Evans, with premium pizza, a range of Italian-inspired entrées and mains like hearty Italian pasta dishes, Waygu beef and seafood. But it would be silly to order anything aside from the pizza – the fig, pancetta and gorgonzola, or white anchovy with olives and capers, are particular standouts.
