Pizza e Birra
The thin-crusted bases with chunky toppings, strands of chewy mozzarella and fresh herbs make the pizza here outrageously popular – it is one of the best pizza restaurants in Sydney. And the location, right on the perennially hip, hubbub of Crown Street, helps, too. Fronting onto the street, with a couple of tables on the footpath outside, the restaurant is only a few steps away from some other Crown Street offerings, The Clock pub and Mille Vini, an Italian wine bar owned by the same owners. As for the pizza, the wood-fired oven thin crusts means it’s perfectly acceptable to munch down an entire one to yourself – you won’t want to share it, that’s for sure. From simple margarita with tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil and parmesan, expect little twists, such as truffle oil drizzled over the patate pizza, an enticing mix of potatoes, mozzarella, provelona, sausage and parmesan. Beer-lovers will be in their element here, as the birra at Pizza e Birra tends to be sourced from eclectic boutique breweries around Australia – ask the waiters what’s new.
