Hg2 : The Hedonist

Uccello

This white and yellow, light and bustling Italian dining room in the megacomplex known as Ivy is fabulous to look at and better yet, what really sells it as one of the great places to eat in Sydney is that it sits astride the hedonist’s playground of the Ivy Pool Club, complete with buff lifeguards and 25-metre rooftop pool. It can be difficult to slurp up a strand of angel hair pasta when there are rippling six packs and cavorting babes in bikinis mere metres away, especially if you’ve snared one of the outdoor tables right next to the action, but if you tear your eyes away from the frolicking beautiful people, there’s a fairly reputable Italian dining experience to enjoy. Settle in and order it all – from San Daniele prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella and antipasti. Pastafarians will go mad for the handmade pasta; try the squid-ink tagliolini for the primi, mains like roast baby organic chicken or pan-roasted fillet of coral trout for secondi. The epic dolci – if you can fit it in, that is – we’ll leave up to you, though you’re in safe hands choosing anything. Chef Eugenio Riva does a sterling job with handmade pasta and trattoria classics and best of all, spending your cash here pretty much guarantees you entrance to the wonderland pool club – notorious for its tough door policy.
