2 Danks Street
One of the foremost art galleries in Sydney, the grey-coloured warehouse at 2 Danks Street was a former Kodak factory until Sydney lawyer and philanthropist Leo Christie decided to restore it in a bid to create a flourishing creative community. Today, it’s a one-stop shop for art enthusiasts with ten galleries including Annette Larkin Fine Art and Aboriginal and Pacific Art, featuring art from the Tiwi Islands and Arnhem Land in Australia’s Northern Territory. Dominik Mersch is a contemporary space that focuses on art from Europe’s German speaking culture, while you can pick up limited-edition prints or a bright yellow Andy Warhol bust by Ottmar Hörl at the edgy Multiple Box gallery. Art works up an appetite and Waterloo has some brilliant eateries; in the same warehouse you can stop for lunch at Danks Street Depot, run by slow-food fan chef Jared Ingersoll.
