Depeche Mode (DM bar)
A tribute bar started by a sincere Depeche Mode fanatic, this is a downstairs grotto dedicated to the band from Basildon, who naturally have visited their namesake and autographed the UV-lit, whitewashed walls.
More like a shrine or art installation than a drinking den, this is a fun place to visit for a quick dose of Estonia’s real culture – just as pop-obsessed and media-conscious as anywhere – although perhaps DM Bar would look more at home in edgy, weird Berlin than in straight Tallinn.
Needless to say, the majority of jukebox airtime is devoted to Depeche Mode, played over a powerful sound system. You can also buy special Depeche Mode cocktails – ‘Never Let me Down Again’, ‘Blue Dress’ or ‘Rush’ – as well as all the standard sticky cellar beers and liquors. Bar snacks are limited to Pringles and chewing gum, which somehow get a listing on the menu.
