With its black wooden tables, deep-red leather armchairs, sprawling bookcases and wood panelled ceilings, Scotland Yard may look at first like the typical British pub export, with a dash of cigar lounge thrown in. But with clever design, a nightclub lay-out, wall-length aquarium and some good-looking clientele, this is a stylish take on the traditional pub – which manages to feel intimate despite its enormous size.
rnSome kitschy touches include waitresses in police uniforms with handcuffs (popular with the stag weekend crowd, although we didn’t see much evidence of them here). A great place for a wild night on the large dance-floor or a relaxing, comfortable hideaway for a cigar and a quiet drink (the mezzanine bar around the back).
rnOn Sundays and Mondays Scotland Yard hosts live rock bands, with live jazz and piano on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
