Hg2 : The Hedonist

Cafe Elsebet

Part of the same medieval-themed complex as Cafe Peppersack and Kolme Konna Grill, Café Elsebet takes up the second floor of this beautiful old merchant’s house right next to Town Hall Square.
rn
rnThe café has its own front door on the main road, but you can also enter through the picturesque main restaurant, ascending fairy-lit wooden steps over the heads of tourist-bus diners and the heraldic emblems of Hanseatic burgermeisters. Strangely shaped but Tardis-like in size, Elsebet forms a quadrangle of four rooms – the busiest being a long corridor full of tables, which somehow manages to work.
rn
rnThe café’s upstairs location makes it popular with locals, and when it’s busy there is a lot of atmosphere in the low-lit rooms (it’s possibly the largest candlelit café you are ever likely to come across). Expect standard café fare, or porridge, pancakes and ‘hot bread and butter’ dishes as well as light meals.
