Olematu Rüütel

A rather grungy but well-located guest house in the very heart of historic Tallinn, Olematu Rüütel (‘the Non-existent Knight’) doubles as a restaurant and conference centre as well as a tiny hotel in a backstreet of atmospheric Toompea Hill – the preserve of the knightly classes who held sway over the city for hundreds of years.

With only three rooms, this miniature boarding-house is unlikely to attract the large tourist gangs that roam through old Tallinn, leaving it free for couples or small groups looking to stay close to the centre. Bedrooms are clean and simple but definitely aimed at the budget market (two of the rooms have a common shower and lavatory off the hall). Despite this, it can quickly fill up, so be sure to reserve in advance.
