Downstairs from the legendary restaurant of the same name, Gloria wine cellar doubles as an abundantly stocked wine merchant and a warren-like cellar restaurant. Romantic and cosy (although at times a little draughty), the cellar is not widely promoted as a restaurant – and you must enter the maze-like rooms through a pretty wine shop. Once inside you can sample up to 2,000 wines or enjoy a meal from the same kitchen as the celebrated Gloria upstairs, so your peppersteak or soup may come from the same hand that prepared the beef stroganoff for Bill Clinton or the Pope.
rnThe cellar menu is restricted to a small selection of meat and fish dishes, a pasta of the day and a couple of starters, all shoehorned onto one list. You can get away with a three-course meal, together with attentive service, for as little as 15Eur (plus drinks), or you can order from the upstairs menu if you feel like foie gras and the works. Wine is only available by the glass. Call in advance to reserve a romantic niche or the table for two by the open fire.
