Restaurant MEKK
Found within the Savoy Boutique Hotel in Tallinn’s Old Town, Restaurant MEKK serves elegant modern Estonian cuisine. The folks here are rightly proud of their culinary heritage, and the wealth of great local suppliers they have at their fingertips. Where possible, they source everything close to home. They bake their own bread. They reach out to farms for their veg. In short: there’s an admirable attention to detail at work at Restaurant MEKK.
The menu here mixes and matches flavours and textures. There’ll be a touch of cep foam, a blackened carrot and truffle cheese alongside your perfectly grilled Estonian grass-fed beef fillet. Crispy fried ham and cauliflower cream accompany the tender, lightly marinated and baked whitefish. And roasted veal comes with creamy aioli, crispy lentils with smoked ham and, as an unexpected bonus, smoked eel.
The drinks similarly pack a flavour punch. In addition to the wine list, there’s a comprehensive selection of spirits, liqueurs, beers, ciders and cocktails. While they’d all make great accompaniments to dinner in the warm surrounds of the Restaurant MEKK dining room (all well-trodden wooden floor boards and heavy drapes), the bar is a charming alternative. With low lighting and comfy seats, it’s the ideal place to order a well-mixed martini and settle back to enjoy the small plates and platters (as well as a selection of the restaurant’s offerings) in style.
