Not cheap by local standards, this new, platinum-cool sushi restaurant just off Town Hall Square seems to target a chic international clientele. Yet after a year of business the place is full of Estonians and ex-pats alike – dropping in for a glass of wine while they take in the Prada-esque ash-black interiors. With its ultra-hip approach Silk could hold its own in New York, London or any world capital.
Fresh orchids hang, individually, in metal vases across each wall, strung along diagonal wires. Despite the lack of Japanese staff in the kitchen or on the floor, service is orientally polite and the sushi decent, although the rice can be a little dry. Helpful combination tips and platters at the back of the menu will assist those easily confused by the range of sushi available, while cooked dishes are available for the ambivalent.
