Bertie
Masrik Square is often neglected in the urban landscape of Tel Aviv, overshadowed by its bigger sister, Rabin Square, as well as the nearby Dizengof Center mall. Yet the recent launch of Bertie’s, the much anticipated venture by culinary veterans Roie Antebi, Or Beri and Yishay Malchov, seems to have shaken the dust of the sleepy urban enclave.
With names such as Nobu, Gordon Ramsey and the Mamilla Hotel floating in resume’s of the owning trio, it is no wonder this little gem of a restaurant has become one of the tougher spots to reserve a table. Bertie’s is an effort in creating the true Levantine menu, focused on local ingredients and a blend of the different ethnic influences that have found their way into the demographic melting pot that is Tel Aviv. Expect small, delicious dishes, a décor dedicated to ‘beautiful Israel’, and a bottle of Arak on each table whose contents are measured and charged for by the centimeter.
