Joz Ve Loz

Sitting happily on the crossroads of high and lowbrow buzz, the popularity of Joz Ve Loz stems as much from its wonderful, ever-changing menu offerings as from the celebrities that frequent its eccentric tables and bar. Thus, it comes as no surprise that the establishment has been lavished for praise as a fine example of ‘personal market-based cuisine’ while also considered as one of the best locations for showing your tourist friend the Tel Aviv lifestyle.

Hip is often defined as effortless ‘cool’, and Joz Ve Loz seem to have been practicing. There is no sign at the front of the property, but rather the guests find themselves having wandered into the inner courtyard, strewn with tables lit only by candles and decorated with potted basil sprouts. The entire stock of tables, chairs, and other furnishings were salvaged from the Jaffa flea market, providing for quite a disjointing aesthetic to the restaurant.

Apart from a few staple dishes, the menu changes every day, according to the whims of the chef and availability of market-produce. The kitchen bears both Italian and French influences, but does not subscribe to a single gastronomic form. A new menu is typed up every day in Hebrew using a manual typewriter; another pleasing, hip touch to round out the chic aesthetic. Note that Reservations are never taken, so be prepared for potential waiting time during dinner.
