Founded in 2003 by Philip and Helena Blau, the fashion house Frau Blau quickly gained accolades both within the industry and beyond. Yet developing a style that clearly placed them in the Avant Garde of Israeli fashion could have meant only temporary success. After winning the award for ‘best outfit’ in the popular Israeli version of Project Runway, though, Frau Blau’s position in the industry spotlight is assured.
Presenting an escapist attitude to fashion, Frau Blau seeks to design apparel that is as sophisticated as it is full of humour ad wit. Using bright colours and complex patterns that often generate optical illusions, the duo seeks to effuse an atmosphere of optimism and joy. As Blau states: “ Our work is sophisticated and current, and the fun derives from that. For example, we’ve launched socks printed with classic oxford shoes and socks. The laces are overly long, but it’s still a real thing that, at the same time, can’t be real.”
In addition to their two boutiques in Tel Aviv, Frau Blau products can be found in 20 locations throughout Israel, as well as outlets in Russia, Austria and Germany. Stop by their boutique in Gan Hachashmal, and you might even run into the pair at work or chatting with one of their regulars.
