Kissa Ginza
Who says that fashion-forward and trend-setting young Tokyoites dictate the party agenda? The city’s grannies also to know a thing or two about a good time – at least when it comes to Kissa Ginza, a time warp of a space on a quiet Ebisu backstreet.
By day, armies of hatted grannies head to Kissa Ginza for a gossip, a cup of coffee and a slice of cream cake. By night, however, a different clientele populates the space – young lounge-lovers keen to mix 1960s kitsch with their G&T. The setting is pure granny-chic time warp: from the glass cabinet of trinkets, fancy china and retro banquettes to the red carpets, potted plants and chocolate coated sugar puffs that come with drinks.
In fact the only things erring on the younger side of 40 are the late night clientele. While the café is often the setting for DJ events and parties, even on a quiet night, it’s the perfect spot for a nostalgia-imbued cocktail and some quality people watching.
